Super Gr8!

14 June – The J.J. Abrams and Steven Speilberg collaborative effort "Super 8", made a mere US $35.4 million at the North American box office but still managed to climb up the top spot, pushing the mutant superhero origins story; "X-Men: First Class" to second place, while the testosterone driven comedy "The Hangover II" hangs low at third place for the weekend just gone (9-12 June), according to online tracker Box Office Mojo.

Syamsul Yusof directs and stars in "KL Gangster" which tops Malaysian box office this week.

In Malaysia, "KL Gangster" harasses its way to the top spot on its opening week, even beating out "Super 8's" debut despite playing in fewer screens than the latter. "KL Gangster's" producers, Skop Production, announced on their social media site (Twitter), that the movie had thus far grossed a whopping RM6.2 million at the Malaysian box office.

While "Super 8" settles for second, "X-Men: First Class" which was first last week, surprisingly drops to third place in the Malaysian box office.

In Singapore however, the box office list shows not much difference than last week, with "X-Men: First Class" still dominating the top spot, while "Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom" stays at second. "Super 8" which opened last week is at third place proving that maybe the movie isn't as 'super' as one may expect it to be.

New releases and sneak shows upcoming this week in Malaysia include "3,2,1 Cinta", "Green Lantern", "Laddaland" and "Blitz".

In Singapore, new releases and sneak shows upcoming this week are "Green Lantern", "Barney's Version", "Africa United", "Mr. Popper's Penguins", "The Ward", "Punished" and "Pinoy Sunday".
