7 superhero movies to watch in 2020
Marvel's "Black Widow" or DC's "Wonder Woman 2"?
Marvel's "Black Widow" or DC's "Wonder Woman 2"?

Like any other recent years, 2020 is no difference since we'll be getting a slew of superhero movies from both Marvel and DC.

From DC's "Birds Of Prey" to Marvel's "Eternals", here's the list of 7 Superhero Movies To Watch in 2020.

1) "Birds Of Prey"

Looks like Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) isn't fighting solo after all in "Birds Of Prey".

Kicking off the year 2020 list of superhero movies would be "Birds Of Prey" (or fully titled as "Birds Of Prey: And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn", can you imagine saying out this lengthy title at the cinema counter. "Birds Of Prey", of course, would serve as the spin-off for Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, who was previously seen in the otherwise tepid "Suicide Squad" back in 2016. Given the current age of female empowerment and SJW (social justice warrior) culture, it seems timely enough to have an all-female superhero (or is it anti-superhero?) movie. The trailer that has been released so far promises something kooky and colourful, with Robbie taking the lead. Joining her is Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Huntress), Rosie Perez (Renee Montoya a.k.a. The Question) and Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Black Canary). And instead of seeing Jared Leto reprising his big bad role as Joker, we got Ewan McGregor playing a villain for a change as Black Mask.

2) "The New Mutants"

Will "The New Mutants" finally stick to its current April 2020 release date or will it
get delayed again? Maisie Williams has no idea.

Wait... haven't we heard about this movie before? In case you are losing count, "The New Mutants" was supposed to be released in April 2018 before it got delayed all the way to February 2019 and again to August 2019. As of now, this pre-Disney/Fox-era final "X-Men" movie has currently secured an April 2020 release date. Whatever the cause of delay is, it's hard to deny not to get intrigued with the concept of a superhero genre in the guise of a horror-movie, where a group of young mutants (Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams of HBO's "Game Of Thrones) are captured and locked up in a secret facility.

3) "Black Widow"

Scarlett Johansson to lead her first solo "Black Widow" movie.

No list of superhero movies would be complete without a brand new Marvel film. And that honour goes to "Black Widow", which will officially kickstart the MCU's Phase 4 slate. Scarlett Johansson reprises her iconic title role and this would mark her first standalone Marvel movie. What separates "Black Widow" from most of the recent Marvel movies is its more traditional espionage action-thriller tone, at least judging from the trailer so far. Interestingly enough, "Black Widow" will also introduce other comic-book characters including Yelena (Florence Pugh) and Red Guardian (David Harbour of Netflix's "Stranger Things" fame).

4) "Wonder Woman 1984"

Gal Gadot is set to return as the titular Amazonian warrior in "Wonder Woman 1984".

Originally scheduled to be released in November 2019 before Warner Bros. chose to push it to the crowded summer season of 2020, there has been massive hype surrounding Patty Jenkins' follow-up to the highly-successful "Wonder Woman" back in 2017. Besides, the first movie was a huge hit at the worldwide box-office and even received overwhelmingly positive reviews - a rarity for a DCEU movie that often gets hit with mixed-to-negative responses. Of course, it wouldn't be a box-office phenomenon if not for Gal Gadot's impressive turn as the titular Amazonian warrior. This long-awaited sequel will see Gadot's Wonder Woman in the 1980s Cold War setting, where fans will finally get to see two new DC villains including Cheetah (Kristen Wiig) and Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal).

5) "Morbius" (July 30)

Jared Leto takes on the title role in Sony's first live-action "Morbius" movie.

Looks like Jared Leto isn't about to give up playing a comic-book character after all. This is especially after his appearance as Joker in "Suicide Squad" was met with mostly unfavourable responses. This time, he makes a leap from DC to Marvel (or more appropriately, Sony's Marvel) to play the titular vampire "Morbius". Daniel Espinosa, a journeyman director best known for helming various genres including crime thrillers ("Easy Money", "Safe House") and science fiction ("Life") would mark his first foray into the superhero genre.

6) "Venom 2"

Tom Hardy reprises his role as the titular anti-hero character in "Venom 2".

Who could have thought the otherwise badly-reviewed "Venom" would manage to exceed expectation and made over USD850 million at the international box-office on a reported USD100 million budget? Given the surprise success of the first movie, a sequel was inevitable and "Venom 2" gets more interesting with the inclusion of Woody Harrelson's Cletus Kasady a.k.a. Carnage. Original helmer Ruben Fleischer bowed out of the sequel this time around, with Andy Serkis taking over the director's chair.

7) "Eternals"

The diverse cast of Marvel's "Eternals".

2020 closes with the final superhero movie of the year with "Eternals", the second Marvel movie in the Phase 4 slate after "Black Widow". The upcoming team-up movie will feature a richly diverse cast, with Angelina Jolie marking her first foray into the superhero genre as Thena alongside Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Gemma Chan as Sersi and Lauren Ridloff as Makkari. The latter would make cinematic history as the first deaf superhero in the MCU universe.
