Michael Fassbender joins Hasselhoff for "Kung Fury II"

Michael Fassbender to star in 2015 cult classic "Kung Fury" sequel.

13 Feb – Michael Fassbender has officially been cast in David Sandberg's feature-length follow-up to his 2015 cult classic short "Kung Fury", aptly titled "Kung Fury II: The Movie".

The two-time Academy Award-nominated actor will join two other already confirmed cast members, Sandberg himself and David Hasselhoff, as they return to reprise their roles from the short film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Kung Fury" is an homage to '80s action movies with over-the-top action sequences and plot line and has currently garnered over 29 million views on YouTube, making it an instant cult classic.

Beginning as a Kickstarter project, "Kung Fury" takes place in Miami and tells the nonsensical story of Kung Fury, the best police officer working who must travel through space and time to save his friends, defend the prestigious Miami Kung Fu Academy and defeat all evil after a mysterious villain emerges to acquire the most powerful weapon of all.

"Kung Fury" has gained massive success and a cult following over the years.

Details regarding "Kung Fury II: The Movie" is still under wrap as KatzSmith Productions will only begin shooting this summer in the US and Europe.

As for fans of Michael Fassbender, see him return as the metal-controlling mutant Magneto in "X-Men: Dark Phoenix" when it comes out in cinemas this November.
